This Past Week

Ugh, this past week has been horrible.  We went on a short little trip a few hours away and the last day of the trip Little Lady woke up with a fever.  That was Friday.  As of typing this (Wednesday night) she still has a fever.  We have gotten it to break, though.  Before it was just solid with no relief for her.

We went to the prompt care facility where an idiot looked her over.  I know people cannot know everything, but this guy is an idiot.  When Little Lady contracted Hand-Foot-Mouth disease (really a virus) a while back, he told me it wasn’t that when I specifically asked.  He even told me that it would be alright to take her to church the next day because she definitely was not contagious.  I didn’t believe him then and trusted my instinct.  Went to the pediatrician that Monday and he confirmed it was definitely Hand-Foot-Mouth.

So this time I asked him if it was Scarlet Fever.  He told be absolutely positively not.  She was having an allergic reaction to something.  I didn’t believe him and insisted that he write a prescription for an antibiotic for her.  When I say insisted I mean I told him point blank I was not leaving the examination room until I had a prescription in my hand.

I got it.  Well her fever spiked to over 103 the next day and I took her to the ER.  Her rash was so bad that she could not sit still.  She was covered with an inflamed and itchy rash.  The nurses in the ER looked at her and knew it was Scarlet Fever.

After some blood work they also discovered signs of an additional virus present.  Turns out she had a mild infection from a tick bite.  Not Lyme Disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, but a small little infection.

We have a TON of medicine we are pumping in her tiny little body to help her feel better.

While she is still sick, she is looking more and more like herself.  The Scarlet Fever rash is gone.  She is still having discomfort and occasional low grade fever.  Prayers are much appreciated.

I am hoping she is better by tomorrow.  Saturday we are having Cole’s 6th birthday party at the house.    I have some serious cleaning to do!!!

Tomorrow SHOOT.EDIT.SUBMIT. will be up. Smile

  1. Poor thing! We have had that exact same experience at urgent care with our kids. I'll be praying for you both and I hope everything comes together well for the party.

  2. Oh no! That's terrible. Poor sweet girl. I'm glad she's on the mend. Prayers are going up!

I had scarlet fever once, but I was a teen. That's serious stuff. She's lucky to have a savvy and persistent mama like you. Wow.

I hope you get some relief soon, Kim. You need some good news!!

  3. I didn't even know scarlet fever was around these days. Thankfully you have a greater sense of your daughter's health than this doctor....Hope she makes a quick and full recovery. Hope you soon have a camera again too!

  4. how scary, and frustrating not to get a straight answer! I'd go back to that guy (idiot doctor) and tell the diagnosis you got! Hope she feels better!

  5. I am so horribly sorry to hear that. You are one awesome mama though to stand your ground & listen to your instincts. We have our own collection of idiot med "professionals" here in our town. It's a joke. I can totally relate there.

  6. Your poor family! I can't imagine how stressed you've been with this. I hope she's on the up and up and feeling 100% VERY soon!
