Photo Feedback: Week 15

Is it really week 15 of this?  I know a lot of people are not really joining in.  I was hoping by this time more people would be.  I know there are forums (most cost money) and communities that have places for critiquing, but I thought right here on the blogs would encourage people to join in more.  Not only are people not linking up a photo, but they are not leaving feedback.  :(  The participation is low right now and I have no idea what I plan on doing about it or with this critiquing link up.

But enough of that.  On with the show! :P  I am such a dork.  I know I am, so that makes it okay. Right?

I took this photo yesterday in my neighbors yard.  We were chatting while my kids were playing with her grandkids.  I had my camera with me and asked if I could take some shots of her lovely flowers.  I will share more of them soon, but here is this one for right now.

Shot with my Canon 7D, Canon 50mm 1.8 lens.  I had my macro attachments +1 and +2 on together. Aperture: f/4.5, Shutter Speed: 1/1000, ISO: 250.  It was very bright at 2pm and the flowers were under the shade of a tree.

You can see the dappled light shining on the blossoms.  Normally I hate dappled light, but I think it made this look more interesting.

Mom Tried It

Here are the guidelines for Photo Feedback:

  • The photo you submit must be your own.
  • The photo can be new or old, edited or SOOC, never a theme to adhere to.
  • When leaving feedback be sure to say something you like about the photo along with something you would suggest to improve the photo.
  • If you join in, please visit a couple of other participants too.  They want feedback just like you do.
  • Please link back in your post with text or grab the button.
  • If you are going to have more than one photo in your blog post, please specify which photo you want critiqued.

The link up is live from Mondays (12:01 am) through Fridays (11:59 pm) CST.  So you have lots of time to join us.

*The code for the blog hop is at the very bottom. This is a Blog Hop! That means the link up will show up in your blog too and your readers can join in without having to leave your page.

I am really looking forward to reading your feedback.  Thank you for helping me get better.  I am learning so much from you!

  1. Hiya! Nice photo. I think, if it was me, I might have went closer to the 'main' flower. However, I love the bokah effect of the other flowers. Very nice.

As for Photo feedback- I really like the feature! It is a bit hard to put your photos up for all to criticize, but I have found everyone to be very kind. Some feeback I agree with, and other points I don't. You came by my blog last week and left me some feedback on a photo. I knew one photo was stronger than the other and I couldn't figure out why. You answered my question with some fab advice, and I will bare it in mind for the future, so you see, I am seriously learning from Photo feedback. Hoping more people will join in so you don't stop.

  2. Love the cropping on this one. The details you captured in the flowers is beautiful. I feel like maybe the foreground is competing with the background? I don't know if it's the coloring/saturation or bightness? I really love the bokeh you captured.

I have learned a lot through photo feedback! It has been fun to participate and helpful to receive feedback. Would directions/tips/rules on how to leave feedback be helpful? Maybe people are afraid of sounding mean? Maybe some don't know how to give or receive constructive criticism? Just a thought I had :)

  3. I really like the depth of field that you captured in this shot! The only thing I may have done differently would be to make a slightly tighter crop in on the flower in the foreground so that it's not competing as much with what's in the background. And since I'm a dork, too, I'd love to know your post-processing steps, if any. I'm a sucker for before and after comparisons.

  4. I for one really like the blog hop! I haven't offered feedback to others yet because I know I don't have nearly as much experience as all of the other participants! I will give it a try though ; )

As for your photo above, I really like that the background blossoms look a little drab in color. The contrast really makes the subject pop! I may have gotten a little closer to the subject blossom because their detail looks amazing but one has to lean in a little to really see it.

  5. I like your photo! It looks good. I cant think of anything to improve it! Thats good, right?

  6. I really do want to participate with some of my photos but life keeps getting crazy and I keep forgetting to do it. Keep it going and hopefully I will get to join in soon!
What I LIKE: the gorgeous color of the foreground blossoms, beautiful pink, I like the blurred background but...
What I DON'T like is the blossoms in the back look like they may be dead or extremely wilted making them not look like part of the same plant. There isn't even a hint of pink but a dull brown look. I don't know if this was photoshopped this way or if the blossoms in the back really were dying off and past their prime.
I love your blog and I am trying to get myself more organized to participate in your community here!

  7. I love linking up to Photo Feedback... sorry I haven't linked up the last few weeks... I've been busy. I'm linking up this week, though. :)

Your photo is really pretty. The focus is great.
I wonder what it would look like if the background were black and white, just the flowers that are in focus left in color? Or I think adding some texture would look nice.
But it is a pretty photo like this, too.

  8. I love the depth of field and the color pop of that bloom! Beautiful. I think the background of the dry flowers is competing a bit with the subject. Perhaps a different angle might make them less prominent? I think it's a pretty shot though and I love the detail you captured which adds a lot of interest.

    Thanks for hosting! ;)

  9. I love how the flower that you focused on is bright pink and the rest isn't.

  10. I love your photo. I love the composition and the fact that the flower in focus. Did you try yo get even more close?

I would have opted for a texture on this one, maybe (I am not a texture freak, though).
