Have you heard of PicMonkey? After my friend Destri (aka The Mother Huddle) did a post about iPiccy and I shared it, we found out about this new site and I wanted to give it a whirl. PicMonkey is a brand spanking new site, a couple weeks old, that was created by some members of the former Picnik team.
They knew a void had been made with Picnik leaving and wanted to fill it. So you can go to PicMonkey and check it out for yourself. It’s FREE!
I went over and edited a photo. The setup is very similar to Picnik. There are slider bars that make it very intuitive and easy to follow.
The options are really neat. they have basic editing like color adjustments, exposure fixing, sharpening, and cropping. They also also have touch up option of blemish fixing. They offer the ability to add text with a wide array of font styles. You can add symbols, emoticons, arrows, and comic bubbles for fun, too. To finish it off, they offer borders and frames for your photo as well.
I think it is a really solid program, especially for free. They do have upgrade options and are offering FREE TRIALS for those right now. So sign up and take advantage.
I would like to see more options form this site such as a clone tool, collages, and more artistic actions. But I must admit the site is brand spanking new and I am sure those things are in the works as we speak. This team is awesome and they are ready to bring it!
If you want to connect with this cool team you can find them on facebook and twitter.
Oh, if you would like to see it in action a little more head over to The Mother Huddle to see the tutorial of basic edit using PicMonkey. I give tips on sharpening and break each editing option down. It’s perfect for the beginner. This is just a quick and simple way to make everyday snapshots look a little better without costing a dime.
**In case you were wondering I was not compensated for this review. PicMonkey is a free site and I thought I would test it out and then share with you guys. It was solely my idea to write this and all of my opinions are always my own. Have you ever tried to make a redheaded woman think your way about something? ;)

I know better than to make a red-headed woman think my way about something :)
ReplyDeleteOH this sounds so tempting, but I don't need another time sink....... But, it's so pretty, and probably at my level of photography.
awesome, thanks! i was wondering what i was going to do after picnik is no more. although i lost the charger to my little camera and i can't use it for now :( believing God for a better camera!!!
ReplyDeleteCool!! I was wondering if something else would come along. I always liked the idea that if something happened & I needed to edit away from home that I had Picnik available since I am not a fan of the options in Picasa. So now I know that I have a backup again. Thanks for the rundown!
ReplyDeleteGotta go check that out now. So sad picnik is off.
ReplyDeleteThis is good news! I used to love picnik. I'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYay! Thank you VERY much. I had been wandering around looking for the next picnik. This is perfect! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad to see this. Picnik was my go-to!
ReplyDeleteYES! I can't wait to try this site out! (By the way, I received my PSE software and loaded it up but now I'm worried that I didn't get the full version because when I try to follow the instructions for loading presets, etc., I don't have the same folders available...any hints, clues, advice? Thanks! :D)
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I'll have to tell my step-dad about it. He's been asking about a free editing option.
ReplyDeletethanks!
Sounds great. I don't have PhotoShop so will go and check it out!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! Found the link of Pinterest. FYI - Have you seen Pixlr? That has been my go to replacement for Picnik for now. They have a more advanced interface AND a beginner interface so you can use what feels right to you.
ReplyDeleteI tried it after seeing this post as I have been looking for a user friendly photo editing site. I use Photoshop too, but I'm diggin' Picmonkey. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post!! My daughter will be so happy!! I used Picnik up until just recently. I taught my daughter how to use it and she loves it for all her fun photo edits. She will be thrilled to find something she can use again!!
ReplyDeleteI've been using picmonkey for the whole time it has been out and I'd like to say they do now have collage and a lot of new options (some of which are more artistic). I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeletepicnic is back its called Ribbet, just go to Ribbet.com and youll get the website its exactly what picnik was.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I had a bad experience with Picmonkey, I thought that their options were horrible when Picnik had more to offer! so I found PicMonkey before I found this blog. and I bought the year subscription. I was displeased with it, and now I get an automated response saying tht they have too many messages and that they will eventually get back to me. I said good luck to that, So with 35 dollars BLOWN im steaming over this!
That is not how you treat a paying customer. it is ridiculous. I will no longer use their product, and Ill discredit it till that 35 dollars is payed off. so Ribbet is better, just so everyone knows! its free they don't even charge for the upgrade. so ... that tells me that picmonkey is just a rip off of Picnik and Ribbet. well I hope you guys don't get scammed like I did! Best of luck everyone~!
