It probably is no surprise to anyone that has read this blog for a while that I love macro photography. I mean I love it, especially bugs (yes, I am weird). But I love looking at landscape and nature photography.
So when I was out this weekend taking photos at Giant City State Park, I came across an area with a ton of icicles. I shared some of the icicles on the cliffs with you yesterday. But those were really bits and pieces of an elaborate scene that took my breath away in real life.
I came across one spot that had over hanging rock formations with icicles hanging down over a half frozen pond. This could actually fit in one shot, I thought. Now to capture it properly. Crap.
While I know I didn’t capture it perfectly, after trying different angles and recomposing a few hundred times (it was probably more like 20, but it felt like 200). I told myself that I only had 4 clicks to get this. While my memory card had enough space for about 300 more shots, I knew I had to challenge myself. This one was what I felt was the best of the four.
Have you ever given yourself a limit to the amount of shots you were going to take?

I think you nailed it!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love the composition. It's great to limit yourself to four. It takes much less time to pick out your favorite!
ReplyDeleteStunning, I love the textures and the shapes, I could look at this image for ages, happy tuesday.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteIt's stunning. Very dramatic. I love the sharp icicles hanging over the smooth and shiny surface of the frozen water. The swirls in the water also mimic the curves in the rock formation and the contrast of the smooth white icicles against the rough earthy scene are beautiful. I think the perspective and composition are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI generally feel restricted to take fewer shots because of time. I am really trying to work on slowing down and thinking through a shot so that I really "see" it before I shoot. I have never set a quantity limit per se. That would be an interesting exercise and a good one to force me to focus ;)
What a great challenge for yourself - I find that I always love a certain angle/ a certain perspective...so I have to push myself to do something different. I think you did great here!
ReplyDeleteI love this shot--it's awesome! I sometimes chide myself for going crazy with the camera and try to limit things a bit (i.e. when we went to the Farm & Ranch museum and I suddenly realized I took 200 photos in about an hour); I'll often jokingly say that I'm done wasting digital film on this stuff. I try to get the shot in as few attempts as possible if only to cut down on my editing later.
ReplyDeleteThis shot is stunning, and I love how you challenged yourself!!
