Cinco de Mayo

I guess you already know that today is Cinco de Mayo.  I will be doing a couple of crafts today with my kids involving Mexican culture.  But I didn't do them ahead of time to share with you, sorry.  Here is what we are going to be doing today.

We are going to be eating Mexican inspired dishes all day.  Breakfast will be breakfast tacos.  Lunch will be quesadillas.  For dinner I will be making shredded chicken burritos with refried beans and spanish rice.

Today we will be learning a preschooler version of the Mexican hat dance.  I think the kids will have a ball with this.

We are going to try to make a Mariachi band.  Let's see if the kids try to bring in the electric guitar.  :-P

I am also going to show the kids on the map where Mexico is and we talk a little bit about it.  Those are the things I am going to try to fit into today's activities (if the kids cooperate).

Are you doing anything for Cinco de Mayo?  If so, please share.  I would love to read what you are up to!

  1. Ummm, sewing like a mad woman? How did things sneak up on me this much? I don't think I'm going to sleep for the next few days.

  2. That sounds like such fun! Um, can I come to your house? LOL

What will I be doing...let's see..spending all evening in class. YAY! Not. Hehe.

  3. What a fun filled day!
Nope not doing anything special for Cinco de Mayo! Though today is teacher's day so I had my children paint cards for their teachers and I was going to make cupcakes to go with it but time ran away with me so they will get a flower. This year going the route of least amount of money spent LOL
    Have fun

  4. Oh my goodness, Charlie is getting so big! Totally adorable, although she looks like she's ready for her nap ;-)

Me, I'm just working a 14 hour day today. Won't be home til after my boys are in bed :-(

  5. We are making Maraca's out of individual Sunny D containers, to make a Mariachi band too. We are having Quesidillas for lunch too. I made a homemade pinata that we will be doing after lunch. I checked out some Spanish books from the library. And I might try to talk them into a siesta. I will post mine this afternoon.

  6. That picture is adorable! I love the hat.... I need to get one for next year for sure. May I ask where you got yours?
    Here is our crafts- enjoy!

  7. We had quesadillas for snack at preschool today too! We made "maracas" out of decorated paper plates folded in half with beans inside. We also made sombreros, out of red paper plates and plastic cup. We glued pom poms around the 'rim' of the hat and used felt to make stripes around the cone of the hat. Fun times! Tonight I played the gypsy kings and we had chickien posole soup with fresh salsa, sour cream and guac. Mmmm-mmmm! I love Mexican food! :)
