Fast Fruit Fixes

We eat a TON of fruit in our house.  As you may know, my daughter is 17 months old.  She has her first set of molars in, but I still cut up certain fruits…like grapes.  They are a huge choking hazard and I refuse to give them to her without cutting them in half.

I have a trick that I learned from a friend that took some culinary classes.  She had to cut a large amount of grapes at one time for a dish.  Her instructor taught her this trick and she shared it with me.

Now stay with me here, trust me.  You will like this if you have to cut a lot of grapes for a fussy toddler a.s.a.p.

1-4-09 015      1-4-09 016

Grab two lids.  Any lids.  It can be margarine lids or food storage lids.  Put the first one down with the flat side on the countertop.  Place your grapes inside the lid.

Put the other lid on top of the grapes.  Place the lid on top of the grapes just as you would on the container.  It should look like a lid sandwich.  Take a sharp knife and cut between the lids.  Be sure to hold the top lid firmly to avoid slipping.

1-4-09 022

Take off the top lid and BOOM you have cut grapes all ready for your little one to devour.

  18. Wow...you constantly amaze me :) So creative! Now, what can you recommend for my son? He will only eat 'peeled' grapes. If you can figure out a way to help me with that..I'm nominating you for the Woman of Year Award!!! LOL!! REALLY!! It takes me 20 minutes to peel 6 grapes!! Aahhh!!

Have a great day, Kim :)
