This tip has come in from 4 readers. So thank you to Valerie, Staci, Heather, and Jenni. I have seen this a ton of places since the tips came in. I just had to try it and I love it. Now I am sharing with you, just in case you don’t already do it.
I bought an inexpensive over-the-door shoe organizer (about $7 at Walmart). Instead of putting shoes in it, we put our winter hats, gloves, and mittens. Now instead of going through a pile of stuff and having clutter around, we have it all nice and neat. You can see my front door, our coats hanging on hooks, and the shoe organizer with all of our junk in it. We are just a family of four, but I do have extras because I know we will lose something and all the stores will have in stock will be swimsuits.
When we get ready to leave, I tell the kids to grab their hats and gloves. Works great for my son. My daughter thinks she is just another version of my son, so she grabs his things. Well at least all of the items are off of my floor and organized. Try it.

I may just have to "steal" this BRILLIANT idea! Thanks for shring it with us!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea. Too, you could use a colored sharpie and write your kids names on the different pockets to make it even more organized. Thanks Kim!
ReplyDeletethose shoe holders are fabulous. we use one on our pantry door for random pantry things.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this cold weather gear you speak of?
ReplyDeleteI use the same over the door shoe holder for my sewing supplies. One pocket holds scissors, another holds pinking shears, another tape measures, etc.....
Wow, what a wonderful idea. We always are losing gloves and mittens in our house, because we shove them in a box -- this would be great. I am definitely trying this!
ReplyDeletewow I love that idea and believe that I will try the shoe holder trick myself
ReplyDeleteOh yes! We use this too, I think I put up a pick of it on my blog a while back! It works GREAT!!!
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I used it when I had babies. I would put all the baby toiletries in it.
ReplyDeleteFor our hats and gloves we hot glued clothespins to the inside of our closet door. Sometimes I just put the gloves in the hats which are already hanging. We love it:)
We use a sweater organizer. One section for each person and one for grandma (she babysits frequently). You can fit gloves, hats, scarves, etc in there. I actually have several sets of gear for different colored jackets, so I can keep 2-3 sets where I can see them.
ReplyDeleteWe use an over-the-door shoe organizer in our kitchen panty to store lots of little odds & ends -- coupons, scotch tape, bubbles, batteries, flashlights, chip clips ... all of the random stuff that usually ends up on the kitchen countertop.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!!!! I am just now writing The Bullet List for tomorrow on how to simplify and organize for the New Year, I am soooo linking to this!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Destri

ReplyDeleteHa! I am not that smart or creative. This tip was sent in by a few wonderful women that read this blog. I had also seen it about 2 weeks later in a teeny, tiny blurb in a magazine. They didn't even do pictures. I thought it was a great idea. I would have put it on the cover.
