We are all about to start getting Christmas cards, and lots of them. Do you know where you are going to put yours? Here is an idea you might like. Take a tomato stand and make a card holder out of it. Stay with me here. You will need a tomato stand, green poster board, scissors, tape, clothespins, and construction paper.
The first thing you will want to do is make some small circles by tracing a cup (or equivalent) onto the construction paper. Have your kids decorate the circles to look like ornaments. Older kids can even cut them out. While the kids are occupied, turn your tomato stand upside down. Roll the poster board to look like a cone and tape it together. Now just trim the bottom so that it is even. Place the cone over the stakes of the tomato stand. Cut out a star or an angel to put on top of the “tree”. Now just tape (or glue) the ornaments onto the clothespins.
You are done! Now when you get a card, just put it on the “tree” by clipping it on with a clothespin. This is where you can really jazz it up if you want. Some tinsel garland would look great along the bars. You can even add more green poster board to make it look more like a tree. The more cards and decoration, the better it looks. The best part is that even in my house, with two small children, this can’t get broken. You may have to cut some new ornaments, but we all have a ton of construction paper, right? Try it.
